WHAT IS MAORI TOURISM TARANAKI?
Maori Tourism Taranaki Trust is a registered charitable trust and markets itself as Maori Tourism Taranaki (MTT). MTT’s role is to foster, develop, and market Maori tourism product in Taranaki and, through the New Zealand Maori Tourism Society (NZMTS), on a national and international level.

MTT is Taranaki’s official Maori Regional Tourism Organisation (MRTO). As such, it is affiliated with and cooperates with the 12 other MRTOs who form the New Zealand Maori Tourism Society. MTT is the first point of contact for Taranaki Maori tourism enquiries from the industry at large.

MTT exists to provide needs-based solutions for Maori tourism operators that will help them achieve profitability, sustainability and client satisfaction through commitment to excellence.

This will add to the overall variety of experiences visitors can enjoy in Taranaki, making it a more enjoyable destination. This increases Taranaki's profile, encouraging visitors to stay longer, spend more, and refer friends or return themselves.

HOW WILL NON-MAORI BENEFIT FROM JOINING MTT?
Tourism is a dynamic business that is all about satisfying visitor demand. Visitors, particularly international visitors, want to experience indigenous cultures from around the world. Visitors to New Zealand want to experience Maori culture.

MTT exists to help visitors reach Maori product. As a non-Maori in the tourism industry and being a member of MTT, you will benefit by knowing exactly what Maori product is available to visitors in Taranaki, thereby encouraging your visitors to stay longer and spend more. You will also know that you are supporting the greater tourism industry for the benefit of all.

WHO CAN JOIN MTT?
While the emphasis is on Maori offering Maori experiences to visitors, MTT realises that Maori tourism does not operate in a vacuum, so welcomes anyone to join. There are four categories of membership. Only categories 1,2, and 3 qualify for direct assistance as listed in 'Benefits' above.

Category 1. Existing Maori operator (This means you are Maori whose tourism business is currently making sales within Taranaki).

Category 2. Potential Maori operator (This means Maori who plan to enter the tourism industry within Taranaki).

Category 3. Affiliate operator (This means tourism operators, other than Maori, who currently make sales through Maori related product within Taranaki).

Category 4. Affiliate (This means media, institutions, other bodies and operators throughout Taranaki, New Zealand, and overseas who support the kaupapa and objectives of Maori Tourism Taranaki).

Only member categories one, two, and three qualify for benefits as outlined in What Are The Benefits of Joining MTT?

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO JOIN MTT?
There is no membership fee or any other fee at this time. Members will be notified of any fees before they are introduced. Other MRTO’s typically charge $100 to $150 per year.

Simply complete an Application for Membership form. Fax, post or deliver it to the contacts shown. Don’t forget to sign it. MTT will contact you shortly after.
